Just like regular check-ups are important for people, they are also important for your pets. At Paws, Claws, and Hooves Veterinary Center we are your comprehensive veterinarian in West Richland and we perform pet wellness exams on a wide variety of pets. Many other veterinary practices only offer care for dogs and cats but we go beyond, caring for the health of sheep, goats, horses, camelids, poultry birds, and exotic animals like guinea pigs and rabbits.
In most cases, pets should have a check-up at least once a year, but some older pets or those with known health conditions should visit their veterinarian a little more often.
What Happens During a Pet Wellness Exam?
During a pet wellness exam, we will review any health issues your pet has had in the past. Our exams also include a nose to tail evaluation, where we will look into all body cavities and make sure there are no signs of infection or any abnormalities. We'll check their skin, and coat, checking for signs of parasites or any abnormal lumps, and evaluate all their vital signs according to their ages and species.
In many cases, a pet wellness exam also requires updated blood, urine, and fecal tests, and it is possible we may ask for samples or obtain them ourselves during your pet's visit. If they are due for vaccines or other preventative tests or procedures, we will perform those as well.
Your Pets Are In Good Hands
Sometimes, taking your pet to the veterinarian, or having us come to you can be difficult. Many pets are not especially fond of the experience, but their health must be evaluated on a regular basis. At Paws, Claws, & Hooves we have two veterinarians on staff that help with pet wellness exams and other types of pet care.
Dr. Jennifer Corwin has been working with animals since childhood as a 4-H member and even continues her involvement with 4-H today. She and her husband have a wide variety of pets and livestock that play a big role in their daily lives.
Dr. Emily Weier also grew up with 4-H and she has lived much of her life in the Richland area. She treats small and exotic animals as well as horses.
Whether you are a die-hard animal enthusiast like our vets, or just have a single pet that you are looking to keep happy and healthy, we can provide your pets with the veterinary care they need.
