dr. Corwin
Dr. Jennifer Corwin

Dr. Jennifer Corwin knew from an early age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She’s always had a deep love for all animals, participating in 4-H and showing horses, goats, the family dog, and chickens for six years as a youth, as well as showing American Saddlebred horses on the Open Circuit in high school. She attended Brigham Young University for two years, majoring in zoology with a pre-vet emphasis, and then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to marry her high school sweetheart, who was serving in the US Navy. She completed her bachelor’s degree in biology at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, in 2000.

In 2001, as her husband finished his Navy service, Dr. Corwin was accepted to the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine. They moved to Pullman that summer, driving across the country with two dogs, six cats, and a rabbit. She graduated from WSU in 2005, and they stayed on the Palouse for two more years, adding two baby girls to their family.

In 2008, her husband was offered a job at Energy Northwest in Richland, and the Corwin family moved to the Tri-Cities. They have grown to love this area and plan to stay for a long time. Dr. Corwin has four children, and their family enjoys their small hobby farm where they raise Nubian goats, a few horses, a couple of llamas and cows, and lots of chickens, turkeys, and ducks. They also share their home with three cats and an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Dr. Corwin is a leader in their 4-H club, volunteers at the Fair each year, is active in their church, and enjoys singing in the choir.

You can count on Dr. Corwin at Paws, Claws and Hooves to take care of your animals.

Dr. Emily Weier

Dr. Emily Weier was born in Colorado but moved to Richland in elementary school. She was active in the area with 4-H and Pony Club. She is a proud Bomber and graduated from Richland High School in 2005; she went to the University of Idaho and completed her undergraduate courses with a Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine in 3 years before being accepted into Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012. After graduation, she moved back to Richland and worked in small animal medicine before joining the Paws, Claws and Hooves team in Feb 2017 and was excited to continue to see small animal and exotic patients as well as horses.
Animals have always been the center of Dr. Weier’s life with dogs and cats when she was young and adding more species all the time; she has had various rodents, reptiles, and of course, mammals. She and her husband currently share their home with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, a bearded dragon, and a bunch of chickens (all of whom are named and will never be served as dinner).

In her spare time, Dr. Weier enjoys spending time with her family in the area, playing with and training her animals, riding dressage, and is an avid baker. She also is a total movie buff and enjoys reading.

She enjoys working with a variety of species and being able to provide her patients with compassionate, full-service health care.

Paws Claws & Hooves - Mackenzie
Dr. Mackenzie Walkenhorst

Dr. Mackenzie Walkenhorst joined the staff at Paws, Claws and Hooves in June of 2019. She graduated from the Iowa State School of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, IA, in May of 2019, fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a Veterinarian. Mackenzie has always been around animals on her family’s acreage in rural Nebraska. She was heavily involved in 4-H showing Quarter Horses and Boer goats. She also participated in the 4-H Equine Quiz Bowl, and her 4-H highlight was achieving Level 4 in the 4-H Equine Levels program as well as qualifying several times for the Nebraska State 4-H Horse Show.

She could always be found riding one of her family’s horses, chasing cattle for the neighboring farmers, or assisting her father with his bird dogs at AKC Field Trials and Hunt Tests. She also actively participated in local open horse shows and loved driving her horse with her buggy or trail riding. She began working at the age of 14 in a small animal clinic in Columbus, NE, and continued through high school. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where she was active on the University of Nebraska Equestrian Team and qualified for finals her senior year, placing 4th nationally. She also participated in a 5-month internship on a Thoroughbred farm in Lexington, Kentucky, to further her education in the equine industry. Mackenzie’s many experiences in undergraduate studies also include a multi-year position in the UNL Veterinary Diagnostics Lab. Mackenzie’s primary areas of interest are small animals and equines.

Dr. Walkenhorst and her husband chose the Tri-Cities area for the diverse opportunities and outdoor recreation it offers. In her spare time, you can find Mackenzie and her husband seeking adventures on mountain trails or enjoying river walks with their corgi mix, Felix. She also never passed up the opportunity to work with her two Quarter Horses.
Dr. Walkenhorst is excited to provide care for your small animals and equids in the Tri-Cities!
